This schwarzbier is as dark and crisp as the night sky, best seen from the Dominion Observatory in Saanich, BC, the town where we brewed our first beer.

Ingredients: Water, barley, wheat, hops and yeast
Malt: Superior Pilsner, Crystal, Chocolate, Wheat, Midnight Wheat
Hops: Galena (60), German Tradition (30), Northern Brewer (0)
Aroma: Medium bready malt with a touch of roast. Low levels of forest-like hops
Appearance: Dark chestnut brown with a large, creamy, tan coloured head
Flavour: Medium bready malt with a touch of chocolate and roast. Low herbal undertone. The medium hop bitterness results in a slightly malt forward balance. The finish is clean with a hint of roast.
Mouthfeel: Medium body with medium carbonation
The Dominion Astrophysical Observatory sits atop Observatory Hill in Saanich, BC, and has been monitoring the night sky since 1918. Saanich was also home to our first facility in the 1980s, brewing trademark Vancouver Island beers such as Goldstream Lager, Hermann’s Dark Lager and Piper’s Pale Ale.
